Mr. Shade is the founder and current owner of the Urbanshade company. While he only has a minor role in the Pressure game itself, he plays an important role in the overall Lore of Pressure.

Background

Mr. Shade founded Urbanshade as a private security company sometime in the early 20th century. After encountering an unknown anomaly during one of their jobs, he oversaw the company's expansion into multiple different economic markets, chiefly anomalous containment.[2] Despite his advanced age and fragile condition, he is still the head of Urbanshade when the events of the game take place in 2025.

Personality

Mr. Shade is never seen physically in-game, and as such the player does not get an opportunity to interact with him. Despite this, several things can be interpreted about his personality from the game's available information.

It can be assumed that Mr. Shade is a very cutthroat businessman. Given his position as head of the company, it is likely that he led Urbanshade into its Profit First methodology. His soul is so utterly foul that not even Angel's Blood, a substance that purifies a person's soul of sin and guarantees them a spot in Heaven upon their passing, can cleanse him.[3][4]

He has been shown to display some bloodthirsty tendencies, as he has been quoted as saying that guardsmen should "shred their mags until their trigger-finger bleeds" if they happen to encounter Sebastian Solace. He is also shown to have little regard towards Urbanshade's prisoners as seen in the game's ending text, as he doesn't acknowledge The Player's presence when the Crystal is retrieved, and instead opts to "personally" thank them through a text message read by a guardsman, and even failing to get The Player's name correct.[5]

He does, however, have a soft side. One of the Trenchbleeders, Lucy, is named after his stillborn daughter in her memory, and Mr. Shade refuses to allow the Board of Finance to shut her down after the depletion of the Let-Vand Zone resources because he's still emotionally attached to her.[6]
