Z-565, codenamed "Skelepede" is a monster in Pressure. It acts as the main threat players encounter while in the flooded crypt section within The Raveyard.

Appearance

Skelepede takes the form of a centipede made out of various bones. It has a large skull as its head, a long spine as the makeup of its body, and various spinous processes as its legs. The entirety of its spine, up to the top of its head, is littered with lit red wax candles. It has the illusion of having eyes, created by housing candles in each eye socket. The flames act as the proverbial eyes' pupils.

Mechanics

Skelepede spawns exclusively in the flooded crypt section of The Raveyard, starting at room 16 and ending at room 27. It can spawn at any spawn point that is not too close the player's range[Citation Needed]. Whenever Skelepede spawns, it emerges from the flooded area of the last room opened. Skelepede will then start crawling towards the player at a speed faster than the player can walk.

When Skelepede gets close to a player, and if they keep moving in a straight line, it will speed up and enter a "lunging" animation. During this time, it cannot turn and can be easily dodged by moving to the side. If the player gets too close to Skelepede's skull, an animation will play where Skelepede bites the player, dealing 30 damage. After this animation, Skelepede will submerge, then re-emerge, and go towards the player again.

If the player steps onto a dry surface, Skelepede will no longer be able to detect the player and will stop pursuing them until they re-enter the water. Once the player has spent enough time on a dry surface, Skelepede will lose interest and submerge itself back into the pool of water it is standing beneath, until the player re-enters.

Notes

  • Skelepede is client-sided, meaning that each player has their own instance of Skelepede that only they can see and interact with.
  • Skelepede will speed up the further away it is from the player[1].
  • Skelepede used to despawn permanently until you enter the next room, however, that has been changed to the behavior it currently has.
  • There is a bug where Skelepede may not retreat back into the water when a player is standing in a dry spot. It is advised to stand in an open and dry area in order to get Skelepede to leave the area. Standing on some objects may also prevent it from detecting that the player is outside of the water.
  • There is a bug where Skelepede can spawn on land instead of in the water. If this happens, it will stay idle for the rest of the chase and will not respawn. This is known to happen in room "CryptLeftPlatform."

Strategy

The best way to get through the crypt while avoiding Skelepede is to analyze how it spawns during the beginning.

If Skelepede spawns far away from the player, they should continue through as many rooms as they can, while looking behind them to gauge how far away Skelepede is. If Skelepede starts to get too close, players will want to find dry ground that they can stand on until Skelepede loses interest and retreats.

If dry ground is unavailable, players are able to attempt "dodging" Skelepede. When Skelepede gets close to a player, it will lunge towards them quickly in a straight line. Vigilant players are given the opportunity to move out of its way, which will cause it to lunge past the player. This can be done multiple times but may be difficult for players who are not familiar with this mechanic. Sometimes Skelepede will spawn and block the direction to the next room. If this happens, the player should find dry ground immediately in order to wait out Skelepede's retreat. Players can also attempt a dodge maneuver to get past it.

Each player will see their own instance of Skelepede, which means if it retreats for one player, it will not affect everyone else. In the same way, every player will see the perspective of Skelepede following them. When Skelepede retreats, players will not see it again until several seconds after re-entering the water. Players can use this time to plan their next move or loot the room.

Lore

After the EXR-P Team sent to shut down the 2024 Raveyard event was brought in for a meeting, they mentioned the anomaly and Urbanshade personnel were sent to investigate. Z-565 was discovered and then taken into The Hadal Blacksite for study.

The candles on the Skelepede were seemingly immune to being extinguished, so were taken off and used to decorate break rooms around The Hadal Blacksite.

After being deemed no longer useful, the Skelepede was given to the "CT Towers" amusement park for decorative purposes. However, weeks later it was found abandoned, seemingly due to its heavy weight.
