Froger

From Pressure Wiki

Z-283-Froger, codenamed "Froger" is a monster in Pressure, acting as a rare threat found in the Hadal Blacksite and a variant of The Angler.

Appearance

Froger resembles a heavily malformed frog-like face, with numerous sharp, thin teeth and protruding frog eyes, as well as an anglerfish esca that lights up a small area around her. Her features are distorted and heavily defined, with her open mouth taking up the majority of her face. Like all variants of The Angler, Froger is constantly obscured by a thick dark smoke, obscuring everything aside from her face which will always be facing the player, regardless of where they view it.

Mechanics

Froger has a chance to spawn if the player's current or previous room has a valid hiding spot. When Froger spawns, nearby electronics will flicker briefly and Froger will begin advancing. When Froger is close enough to the player she will start screeching loudly, signaling for players to hide.

Froger's raycast goes towards the players head, and will not kill anyone whos head is fully submerged.

When Froger rushes through the room, all players in her line of sight will be instantly killed. Players who hide in time or escape Froger's line of sight before she passes through will be safe.

Upon reaching the end of the latest room, Froger will very briefly pause and then go through the process of "rebounding" once. More specifically, whenever Froger does a rebound, she will rush backwards and pass the players a second time instead of despawning as normal. After heading back enough rooms (which will render Froger inaudible for some time) she will rush forwards and pass the players again, which completes a single rebound.

Notes

  • After a player spends a set amount of time in a room, there is a chance for Froger or any other node monster to spawn. This is called a timer spawn.
  • Before a Froger attack, the navi-path of the next door will flicker briefly. Knowing this makes it easier to tell when Froger is coming in dark rooms or while passing through a room with Eyefestation.
  • Froger has different audio cues compared to Angler, making it easier to know if Froger is attacking.
  • In rooms with two symmetrical paths leading to the next room (such as roundabouts or twin paths), Froger can take either path during any of the three times she passes through. This behavior is unique to Froger, as other node monsters take only one path when passing through.
  • Froger cannot spawn when the furthest room opened is a dark room.
    • This behavior is also present with other node monsters and Pandemonium.
    • If The Angler, or any of its variations (aside from Pinkie), spawn while the player is in a room that is bright, they will break the lights in their path and convert the room into a dark room. When this happens, Froger can no longer spawn until another bright room is opened.
    • There are reports of Anglers spawning shortly after a door has opened to a dark room. This is assumed to be a bug, as Zeal has confirmed in the past that node monsters cannot spawn in dark rooms.[1]
    • The Ridge, while dark in many areas, is an exception to this and will continue to spawn Froger.

The Ridge

For more information, see: The Ridge

Froger will spawn more frequently in The Ridge, and will not be accompanied by any visual cues. Players are forced to rely on sound alone to know when Froger is coming. Froger's sound cues happen earlier while attacking in The Ridge, giving players more time to react.

Strategy

The best way to avoid Froger is to hide before she rushes through the room. Make sure to not hide too early, or you will be forced out of your hiding spot due to cleithrophobia. Try and stay close to a locker for a while until you are certain that Froger will not come back.

Froger uses a raycasting hitbox to create her line of sight, so hiding in places that cover your character completely (including office cubicles, separate hallways, and vents) will work in evading Froger.

You are usually able to hide for Froger's first rush and rebound, of which you can then exit the locker, and promptly re-enter it when Froger rebounds for a final time. This is due to the fact that cleithrophobia usually gives you enough time to hide through Froger's first two phases. However, it will most likely not give you enough time to hide through Froger's final rebound. While risky, this can also be pulled off in The Ridge.

Lore

After Z-13 caused the Blacksite Lockdown, multiple variants of The Angler appeared on CCTV, with Froger being one of them. Because they were only spotted after the lockdown, anyone inside the blacksite is advised to treat them the same as The Angler would.
