Pandemonium

From Pressure Wiki

Z-367, codenamed "Pandemonium" is a monster in Pressure, acting as one of the most dangerous threats found in the Hadal Blacksite.

Appearance

Pandemonium takes the appearance of a melting, heavily distorted face made of brown-coloured flesh. It has two glowing sunken eyes and several smaller eyes inside of its mouth, which will remain darkened until it spots a player. Pandemonium's jaw is warped into a curved shape with numerous disfigured, loose teeth. Similar to all Angler variants, Pandemonium's face will always be facing the player, regardless of where they view it.

Mechanics

Pandemonium acts similarly to Angler and its variants. Pandemonium has a chance to spawn if the player's current or previous room has a valid hiding spot. When Pandemonium spawns, nearby lights will flicker briefly and Pandemonium will begin advancing. Once a player gets within Pandemonium's line of sight, its eyes will light up and it will begin screeching loudly, breaking away from its path to advance directly towards the player, regardless of the distance. Pandemonium's raycast goes towards the player's head, and will not kill anyone whose head is fully submerged.

Pandemonium will instantly kill any players who are not hiding on contact.

If the player is in a locker that is within Pandemonium's line of sight, it will advance towards the player's locker and they will be forced into a minigame. This minigame requires them to keep their cursor in the middle of the screen while Pandemonium attacks the locker, which causes their cursor to jump in random directions.

While the player's cursor is away from the middle of the screen, they will lose energy, as indicated by the bar below the middle point turning red and shrinking. They can regain energy by keeping their cursor on the point. If they run out of energy, Pandemonium will force the locker open and kill them. After roughly 40 seconds, Pandemonium will leave and the minigame will end.

Notes

  • Pandemonium will only spawn after room 19.[1]
  • Pandemonium is the second slowest node entity, being slightly faster than Chainsmoker. But when it detects the player, its speed increases significantly, making it faster than Angler, but still slower than Blitz.
  • After a player spends a set amount of time in a room, there is a chance for Pandemonium or any other node monster to spawn. This is called a timer spawn.
  • Angler and other node monsters can spawn right after a Pandemonium attack.
  • The sound from Pandemonium as it advances is much less intense compared to the node monsters, as it only screeches once it spots a player.
  • Pandemonium will attack more frequently as the minigame progresses.
  • After Pandemonium's minigame, the player won't be forced out of their hiding spot, and their cleithrophobia will be reset.
  • Just like Pinkie, Pandemonium will not break lights.
  • If a player hides completely out of sight from Pandemonium during its attack, no minigame will be triggered and the player will receive the "D-Rank" Achievement.
    • When Pandemonium reaches the furthest unopened door without seeing the player, it "deactivates", gliding in a random direction for a few seconds before eventually despawning. While in this state, it can glide through walls and cannot chase or kill the player.
  • Pandemonium is client-sided, meaning from a player's POV, Pandemonium will only appear to attack them rather than other players.
    • When spectating, Pandemonium will appear to pass by in its unagitated state, meaning spectators cannot see Pandemonium during the minigame.
    • If someone triggers Pandemonium's minigame in a multiplayer run, the next door cannot be opened until said teammate finishes the minigame or dies.
  • Pandemonium and Chainsmoker's approaching noises are quite similar, which can make it hard to differentiate between the two. A good tip is to look out for the Chainsmoker's distinct chain rattling noise or Pandemonium's metal scraping and creaking.
  • If a player activates an airlock while another player is in a locker playing the Pandemonium minigame, the player in the locker will be teleported to the airlock and the minigame will end. However, the game will still register that the player is in a locker, so the player must "exit" the invisible locker to progress normally.
  • Pandemonium cannot spawn when the furthest room opened is a dark room.
    • This behavior is also present with other node monsters.
    • If The Angler, or any of its variations (aside from Pinkie), spawn while the player is in a bright room, they will break the lights in their path and convert the room into a dark room. When this happens, Pandemonium can no longer spawn until another bright room is opened.
    • There are reports of Pandemonium spawning shortly after a door has opened to a dark room. This is assumed to be a bug, as Zeal has confirmed in the past that node monsters cannot spawn in dark rooms.[2]
    • The Ridge, while dark in many areas, is an exception to this and will continue to spawn Pandemonium.
  • The player's middle-of-screen cursor will disappear after completing Pandemonium's minigame. This is most likely a bug.
  • There is a bug where if Pandemonium has seen a player, and the player dies to another threat and revives, Pandemonium will continue to pursue the player once again to kill them. It can take several rooms before Pandemonium finds the player again.
    • Players can mitigate this by getting into a locker once it comes back, putting them in the Pandemonium minigame.
    • It can path into areas where players would not generally find a monster, such as the Searchlights Grand Encounter.

The Ridge

For more information, see: The Ridge

Pandemonium has a higher chance of spawning in the Ridge. Much like Angler, Pandemonium will not be accompanied by any visual cues. Players are forced to rely on sound alone to know when Pandemonium is coming. To compensate for this, Pandemonium's sound cues happen earlier while attacking in the Ridge, giving players more time to react. Pandemonium can only spawn once in the Ridge.[3] If a player reaches the last room in The Ridge, which contains the airlock door, Pandemonium will despawn while in its passive state.

Strategy

Pandemonium uses a raycasting hitbox to create its line of sight, so hiding in places that cover your character completely (including office cubicles, separate hallways, etc.) will work for evading Pandemonium. Unlike Angler, Pandemonium can deviate from its set path and has a much larger line of sight that ignores translucent objects such as windows, making it harder to hide without using a locker. However, hiding out of Pandemonium's line of sight will not trigger the minigame and will award the player with the "D-Rank" Achievement.
When hiding from Pandemonium in a locker, cleithrophobia will commonly not kick you out by the time Pandemonium spots your locker, allowing you to "hide early".
For players on PC, F11 can be used to minimize the Roblox client to make Pandemonium's minigame significantly easier. Due to the smaller size of the Roblox client, Pandemonium can't move your mouse around as easily as it would if you were fullscreen. Smaller window size also allows your mouse to easily remain in the middle of the screen.

Lore

For more information, see: The Lore of Pressure

Pandemonium is made of decaying organic matter, resembling flesh but chemically similar to plastic, along with various metals. It was first found during the initial Let-Vand Zone expedition, located close to a hydrothermal vent. Pandemonium is impossible to kill or harm, and will repeatedly ram into objects in an attempt to reach and devour prey, which is then digested by unknown chemicals inside of its orifice. However, it appears to be relatively impatient, and will give up after a short period of time.

Trivia

  • Pandemonium's old name was "Rebound".[4]
    • Rather than homing in on the player on sight, Rebound would've originally rebounded like Froger before initiating the locker minigame, hence its name.[5]
    • Cleithrophobia would've been disabled upon its spawning, rather than when the locker minigame starts.[5]
    • Rebound would've emitted smoke particles.
  • Pandemonium was not executed while in Urbanshade's containment due to it being impervious to execution methods.[6]
  • Unlike The Angler and its variants, Pandemonium has a physical form that can be described as "flesh".[7]
  • Sebastian Solace could most likely beat Pandemonium in a fight.[8]
  • Similar to The Angler and all its variants, Pandemonium seems to be "floating" exactly 1 meter off the ground.
  • Pandemonium's eye sockets are usually empty and black, but its eyes will glow white when it spots a player.
  • Pandemonium's movement and attacking sounds are sampled from an Iron Lung original track, 'It Wakes' by David Szymanski.
  • Pandemonium alongside Harbinger are the only node monsters that break away from its nodes to attack players.[9] It is also able to spot at a longer range to redirect its path.[10]
  • Pandemonium has 5 ULTRAKILL references alone, making it the monster with the most references of any kind as of the time of writing.
    • Its name, along with the badge awarded for surviving Pandemonium, (War) are references to ULTRAKILL songs of the same names.
    • One of the tracks played during Pandemonium's minigame is called "Wait Of The World," named after an ULTRAKILL level.
    • Being undetected by Pandemonium awards the D-Rank badge, with the icon being an illustrated version of the ULTRAKILL rank screen.
    • Its document mentions "The Panopticon must hold.", a reference to the Flesh Panopticon, an ULTRAKILL boss.
  • In its current state, Pandemonium’s document is not canon.[11]
    • Zeal didn’t like the document that he wrote, so he had a friend write it instead.
  • If Deaf mode is enabled in the settings, Pandemonium's arrival will always be indicated by a distinct red aura around the player's screen.
  • Pandemonium makes an apparition in the game Regretevator as an item called "Frozen Mass". It can be found in the floors "Sebastian's Wares" and "Curse Coves" and it has a white shadow of pandemonium inside a cyan orb. After acquiring the item, Pandemonium will spawn after a period of time and trigger it's minigame, which lasts for approximately 40 seconds. During this state, the player cannot move at all and can still be hurt by hazards.
    • When active, you'll have a effect on you which its description says: "Hello Expendable." "I'm on the way"
      • The effect can't be removed in any way other than using the bask in the Fountain of Oceanus, or dying to it.
    • It's description when buying it says: "DO NOT THAW"
